Commission Inquiries:
If you have landed on this page then you have some curiosity about having one of my fabric collage pieces for yourself, but you want something unique and special to you. Thank you. This is a gift to me.
Before we go any further let’s just go ahead and get the serious stuff out of the way so you don’t have to scroll down to the end to see price, size, and timeline.
Please read my ARTISTS STATEMENT to understand my process and the inspiration behind my work before inquiring.
Commissions start at $2,000.
Final price is determined by the complexity of the design and size. Price will be agreed upon pursuant to a Commission Contract before the first deposit is due.
There is a $500.00 non-refundable planning deposit to cover the time I spend hearing your story and for the creation of up to two preparatory drawings from which to obtain your approval before commencing work. All such drawings remain my property and may not be reproduced without my written consent. This deposit will be credited toward the total cost of the commission and deducted from the final payment.
Upon approval of the preparatory drawing, a non-refundable 50% deposit of the total commission price is required before I begin work on the commission. Payment is due upon execution of the Commission Contract. I will not start the piece until this is paid.
The balance is due upon completion. If you decide you do not want the piece upon completion, I will retain the planning deposit and non-refundable 50% deposit but you will have no further obligation.
If the final product is mailed, the buyer is responsible for shipping costs.
There are no returns of commissioned work.
Most of my work is between 20” x 40” and 40” x 60”
On average it takes me 120 - 160 hours to complete a project stretched over two to three months from the time I actually complete the drawing and start cutting fabric.
I do not barter so please do not ask.
COPYRIGHT: I retain the copyright to all commissioned works, including all reproduction rights and the right to claim statutory copyright. No artwork may be reproduced or altered without my written consent.
Now that the money part is out of the way and if you are still reading..
Commissions are special.
Telling your story through my voice is an honor I do not take lightly. It also means you like what my brain imagines and you want it in your home. I do not take that for granted.
If I accept your commission it means I want to share how I heard it knowing it is going to be something you look at hopefully a lot. I want it to be something that brings you joy and sweet rememberings when you see it. Working with you to get the details of why this image matters to you is a big part of my process. I’m probably going to think about it a lot before I ever put pen to paper.
I also have to feel like I can accomplish this tall task to the best of my ability or I might say I can not make it. Your moments have to speak to me. If I have learned anything in my life as an artist it is to listen to this instinct - for both of our sakes. For me, there is a lot of pressure to make something you have to live with - no matter how much you love my artwork or how talented I am. I get riddled with anxiety about it which is why I have not taken commissions for many years.. I am trying to lay out the process as clearly as possible ahead of time to help manage expectations for us both.
I want us to both come out on top when I put the last stitches down and you hold it in your hands for the first time.
After I receive your initial email we will likely need to have several conversations - ideally in person but if not, modern technology can be quite useful.
You may have to send me a lot of pictures if you have them or can get them. We may both have to scour the internet for inspiration and ideas. We will work together until I have an image developing in my mind. I usually know pretty quickly whether I feel like I can do an image justice or not. And please be aware now, I ask a lot of questions - at random times so I will need to be able to contact you via text from time to time. You can randomly text me things too. This helps me bring your story to life in the important subtle ways.
We will definitely talk about color and mood.
Once the imagery comes together in my mind I will begin drawing. When I have a drawing I love I will send it to you in hopes that you can kind of imagine what it will look like. I will do my best to explain to you my plan, but fabric is dynamic and the idea I start with sometimes has to shift as I work. This is art after all.
If it turns out my first drawing is not what you had in mind I will make a second drawing. If we are still not on the same page, I may elect to refund half of your planning deposit. However, this is in my sole discretion, based on time spent.
As I work on your artwork, I will share many photos of my process and progress on my social media. You are welcome to follow along there. I would strongly encourage you to do so. Along with regular updates on social media I will also send email updates 4 times to you on my progress and the timeline as I work.
I often get asked if I can incorporate special fabrics or other types of fiber into a piece. That is largely dependent on what I am making, the texture and quality, and whether it works with the overall design. My answer to this is, I will try but I cannot make any promises.
Once the piece is completed and ready to ship I will contact you to work out shipping or delivery.
I reserve all copyrights on my artwork. You may not sell it, sell photos of it, or have it replicated in any way without my consent. You are welcome to re-share what I post on various platforms, but you must give me credit for images.
If you are still with me please understand I take making artwork for someone very seriously. It is a lot of money to commission a piece of art and there has to be a lot of trust. I make every effort to be upfront and as transparent as possible before we go down this journey together in hopes that this process will be an experience we both enjoy.
Serious inquiries only. (See form below)
Cheers!
