I generally think of Americans as self absorbed and selfish - myself most definitely included in this statement. In reading this article from the Greater Good on Empathy I was impressed to read that of the 63 countries included in the study Americans fall 7th - that's in the top 10 of the most empathetic countries. I was also happy to see that my home state of Georgia doesn't fall in the lowest 3 states in the United States, but we aren't in the top 3 either. Curious to consider for me that maybe my perspective on my world is a bit skewed and could use some empathy. Maybe I can try to better understand my neighbor because it seems most of us might be trying more than we think we are. It is interesting to consider that maybe we are really thinking about each other more than we think we are..
