Flickers are one of my favorite birds - let's just be honest here - they are all 'one of my favorites'..
We have a flicker that lives in a sweet gum just behind my house. Their call often draws me outside to watch them. They seem to particularly like the mistletoe that grows in the sweet gum so high even if we wanted to pull it down we wouldn't be able to. I have not yet had the fortune of seeing them rear their young. They seem to not be around too much in the summer (though my field guide says they are here in Georgia year round?)..
Today I'm sharing a short podcast from BirdNote on Northern Flickers - in only 2 minutes they manage to fill your brain with just about everything you need to know should you see one of these strange woodpeckers.
