What We Design Designs us

It is my belief that we as humans are not alone in co-creating this world.  We do, however, have a great deal of control over how we participate in the creation of it.

Storytelling Animal

Last Friday I posted a video from Alan Watts proposing that our lives are not journeys - they are moments coming and going.  If we are seeking to be present in the moment we cannot simultaneously also be thinking our lives are a journey.. A process. So, Jason Silva, adds the interesting concept of us being the storytelling animal.    He suggests the 'Hero's Journey', called as such by Joseph Campbell, is that we are evolved to tell the story of life on Earth - how we fit on this planet.  I propose they are both correct.  And thus is it our mission - one of the many great paradigms of life to both be on the journey and be present to the moment.

To understand that life is happening constantly and how our lives are part of that happening.  Because we communicate we do so in the form of story.  In order to make sense of the moment - at least until we learn to stay within it all moments, which is either death or enlightenment, we create the stories to help us comprehend our emotions and world.  We have to have the stories because we are on a journey to make it all connect and in doing so we have to be in the moment fully to connect..  Perhaps, our job as mammals - as human animals is to be the historians of earth.. the piece of the puzzle who connects it all.. What if we owned that responsibility?
