In the studio I have completed the Mermaid and I have moved on to a new project - a Coyote in Bachelors Buttons. There may be a few other wildflowers native to Georgia, but I haven’t decided on which just yet. The making of the baachelors buttons is going to take some time as the petals are quite intricate.
I have been drawing coyotes since I made the Red Fox. Thus, this piece has been itching to come out. To accomplish it I needed the skills I learned while making the mermaid. The natural buzz of creativity is incredible as I set to work on this trickster. It’s really all I can think about outside of my day to day.
I am happy to report that The Mermaid is well loved by her new owners. In reviewing my “takeaways” from making her I thought I would share those with you all this month:
One hour at a time gets it done
be more mindful about piece size when designing - dime sized or bigger.
practice practice practice and then practice some more (yes I almost always end up with this one)
cleaning up between stages often shakes something loose when I am feeling stuck
documenting what I’m thinking about when I leave the studio really helps me come back to it after several days (I didn’t do a great job of this on the mermaid for some reason)
Be fascinated by the process. Always choose curiosity.
Take photos and keep a loose game plan
